PODCAST: Season 6, Episode 27
Grab your coffee and settle in for a conversation that needs to happen more often in the entrepreneur world. Today I’m diving into something that’s become a really common problem but nobody’s talking about – when your business looks successful from the outside but doesn’t feel joyful on the inside. If you’ve hit your goals, grown your team, and have consistent revenue but still feel like you’re constantly firefighting or holding your breath waiting for something to go wrong, this episode is for you.
Exciting Announcement 🎉
I’m hosting an in-person day event on September 18th in Guildford, Surrey (45 minutes from London)! This isn’t another strategy day – it’s about redesigning what you’ve already built so it actually fits YOU. Extended early bird for podcast listeners: £150 including lunch – just DM me “Millsie, can I have the early bird? I’m a podcast listener” within 7 days of this episode dropping.
Key Topics Covered
In this honest conversation, I explore:
- Why external success metrics don’t always translate to internal satisfaction
- The exhaustion that a holiday just won’t fix
- How you might be the bottleneck in your own business
- Why following someone else’s blueprint might be keeping you stuck
- The importance of designing a business that works with your brain, not against it
The Real Issue: Success That Doesn’t Feel Successful
Client Story Example: I share the story of a powerhouse client who has hit every goal she set two years ago – good income months, growing team, waitlists for her services. Yet she feels like she’s constantly going to drop the ball and is “holding her breath waiting for something to go wrong.” She experiences Sunday dread not because things are wrong, but because she knows Monday means endless decisions, team questions, and being the bottleneck in her business.
The Core Problem: Many successful entrepreneurs are building businesses using someone else’s way of doing things. They’ve followed launch formulas, implemented content strategies, and copied sales processes that worked for others. While these methods do work, they might not align with how you actually operate best.
My Personal Example
I structured Soul Leaders Academy as a group program because that’s how I was taught to scale. But my magic happens in intimate one-on-ones – I’m totally alive when diving deep into someone’s business. I was essentially trying to run a race in someone else’s trainers. You might finish (even win!), but you’ll have blisters and potentially be injured at the end.
The Solution: Redesigning What Already Works
We’re not starting from scratch or throwing away what’s successful. Instead, we’re redesigning it to fit you – the human who has to run it every day. This means:
- Launching something matched to your nervous system
- Creating team structures that support your leadership style
- Designing offers around your zone of genius, not just what you think will sell
- Exploring what’s been hiding in your notes – that thing you’ve wanted to launch but haven’t yet
In-Person Day Event Details
What: A day focused on implementation, not learning more (you already know enough!) When: September 18th Where: Guildford, Surrey (45 minutes from London) Investment: £150 early bird for podcast listeners (including lunch) Focus: Designing a business that works with your brain, not against it https://millsgray.kartra.com/page/rebuild
This isn’t about learning new strategies – it’s about having the space and collaboration to talk through what you’ve been thinking about with other smart people who get it. Some conversations need to happen in a room with people who understand.
Take Action
- Reflect: Does your current business model actually feel good to run?
- Identify: Are you the bottleneck in your business? Where do you need to make all the decisions?

Remember
If success doesn’t feel that successful right now, it’s time to pivot. I’m the queen of pivots – I understand both the scary side of changing things and the equally scary side of being comfortable and bored in your business. Nobody wants comfort and boredom.
You can have a successful business but still feel like you’re not winning. The question isn’t whether you’re capable – it’s whether you’re trying to fit into a structure that wasn’t designed for how you work best.
