PODCAST: Season 7, Episode 23
In this behind-the-scenes episode of Soul Leaders, Mills gets personal. She shares the story behind the front cover reveal of her upcoming book The Rebellious Leader, takes you inside an in-person client day focused on beliefs and behaviour change, and walks you through a practical audit for stepping into the next version of yourself in business.
This one’s less strategy, more substance.
Behind the Scenes: The Rebellious Leader Book Cover Reveal
Mills pulls back the curtain on the making of the The Rebellious Leader cover, launching 21st July. Think neon pink spray paint, graffiti, a smiley face, and tape across her mouth. Not an accident. The tape represents every time women in business are told to tone it down, be more palatable, be more professional. This cover is the moment before you rip it off and say no.
Pre-order now on Kindle or grab a physical copy on 21st July.
Why Business Growth Requires an Identity Upgrade (Not Just a New Strategy)
The person who got you here won’t always get you to the next level. Mills is clear: this isn’t about rebranding, faking it till you make it, or tweaking your offer. Real upgrading means asking what you no longer negotiate on.
Inside an in-person client day with 11 business owners, the room surfaced some of the identities keeping people plateaued: the invisible one, the busy one, the helpful one, the one who copes, the undercharger. Sound familiar?
Key insight: every behaviour that’s slowing you down has a positive intention. Doom scrolling, perfectionism, procrastination, staying busy. These aren’t character flaws. They’re protection strategies. And until you understand what they’re protecting you from, no strategy will stick.
How to Use NLP to Shift Limiting Business Beliefs
Mills explains how she uses NLP in her one-to-one work and how she brought it into a group setting for the first time. The process: meet the resistance first. If your nervous system has decided doom scrolling is safer than selling, that’s where the work starts.
The upgrade happens when you find a feeling you already know, confidence, calm, decisiveness, and anchor it in. Practice it. Rehearse the new role. Not fake it. Know it.
Listener Audit: Who Are You Becoming in Business?
Work through these questions to identify what’s holding you back from the next version of your business self:
- What behaviour keeps showing up that you know isn’t serving you?
- What does that behaviour actually give you? What’s it protecting you from?
- When did you last feel most like yourself, not polished, just fully connected?
- If you were to upgrade, what would you stop negotiating on? Pricing? Visibility? Saying no?
- What is the one behaviour the upgraded version of you repeats consistently that current you is avoiding?
